Oligochaeta (earthworms)
The name oligochaeta means "few hairs" in greek.
There exists more than 3100 species of oligochaetes. They live in freshwater and on land. Only a few species are marine.

- The body of oligochaetes is linear and segmented (metameric) and compartmentalized by septums between each segment. The body wall of oligochaetes is composed of an inner layer of longitudinal muscles and an outer layer of circular muscles
- Oligochaetes are hermaphroditic with gonads and gonoducts in only a few segments.
- A pharynx and intestine are the most noticeable part of the straight gut of oligochaetes.
